Core Application Requirements

Before initializing your online application, ensure you have clear, scanned copies of the following documents ready for upload.

Note: All names must align exactly across all provided identification.

• Applicant's Credentials: Valid Kenyan e-Passport (bio-data page) and original birth certificate (both sides).
• Fiancé/Fiancée’s Identification: A clear copy of the intended spouse’s valid foreign passport (e.g., Philippine passport) or official National ID card.
• Passport Photograph: One (1) recent, colored passport-sized photo on a white background.
• Divorced Applicants: A certified copy of the Decree Absolute (if a previous marriage was legally dissolved).
• Widowed Applicants: A certified copy of the former spouse's Death Certificate.
• Sworn Affidavit: Required if the Decree Absolute or Death Certificate is more than two (2) years old.

Application and Notice Guide

Online Portal Submission

• Log in to the eCitizen portal (oag.ecitizen.go.ke), select "Registrar of Marriages," and choose "Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage." Complete Form MA5, upload your supporting files, and submit.

Mandatory Legal Notice Period

• By law, the application undergoes a mandatory ten (10) days' public display at the Registrar’s office in Kenya to allow for any legal objections.

Fee Payment & Consular Pickup

• Upon clearance of the notice period, you will receive a notification to settle the statutory fee online via eCitizen. Once the fee is processed, the secure electronic certificate will be generated and made available for download directly from your dashboard.

Important Notice on Alignment and Legality: In accordance with the Marriage Act of Kenya, the government does not acknowledge or endorse same-sex unions; consequently, certificates cannot be issued for such purposes. Furthermore, ensure your marital status is specified on the form as Bachelor, Spinster, Widowed, or Divorced—selecting "Single" is a common cause for system rejection.
