Application Categories and Requirements

Applicants must submit the online eCitizen application form (Form 19), electronic payment invoices, and the standard passport application documents, supplemented by the category-specific proofs listed below:

1. Change of Name via Marriage

• Marriage Certificate: Original and one (1) copy of the Kenyan Marriage Certificate, or a foreign marriage certificate duly authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the issuing country.
• Spouse’s Identification: A copy of the husband's Kenyan ID Card/Passport (or foreign passport if non-Kenyan).
• Sworn Affidavit: A legal affidavit stating the adoption of the spouse's name.

2. Change of Name via Divorce

• Divorce Decree: Original and one (1) copy of the Decree Absolute issued by a court of competent jurisdiction, duly authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• Sworn Affidavit: A legal affidavit confirming the reversion to a maiden name or previous legal name.

3. Change of Name via Deed Poll (Other Reasons)

• Deed Poll: Original and one (1) copy of the Deed Poll officially registered at the Registrar of Documents in Nairobi, Kenya.
• Kenya Gazette Notice: A printed copy of the Kenya Gazette notice publishing the official name change.

Process Summary

Update National ID

• Amend your particulars through the National Registration Bureau to secure an updated second-generation Kenyan National ID Card reflecting the new name.

eCitizen Application

• Log in to the eCitizen portal, fill out the passport replacement form under the new legal name, and clear the online processing fees.

Biometric Interview

• Present a formal written letter addressed to the Head of Mission explaining the reasons for the name change, alongside your complete document packet, at your scheduled consular appointment.
